Structural Editing
A structural edit looks at the organization of the material in an early draft. I will review your manuscript and suggest ways that it might be improved by rearranging, adding, or deleting material.
Line Editing
Line editing focuses on the use of language at the paragraph or sentence level. I will reorganize paragraphs, rewrite sentences, and change individual words or phrases to ensure that you are communicating your ideas clearly and that your arguments are effective.
Copy Editing
Copy editing involves fine-tuning the language with particular attention to errors. I will review the manuscript to correct typographical and grammatical errors, check for stylistic consistency (including alignment with a specified style manual), and revise sentences to ensure that the syntax is clear.
Proofreading
Proofreading typically occurs at the final stage of the writing process. When proofreading your writing, I will correct spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and grammatical errors.
Custom Requests
Some tasks do not fall neatly into one of the categories above. Examples include verifying quotations, checking the accuracy of citations and references, or formatting a reference list. Instead of a one-off structural edit or line edit, you might prefer to work through several stages over a longer period time. Some clients combine editing with either tutoring or coaching. Provide the details of your request, and I will provide a quote.
